Patriots of the American Revolution: The American Revolutionary War Magazine
Writers Guidelines

Patriots of the American Revolution is looking for fresh material, based on original research from primary sources, of course related to the American Revolutionary War. At this time Patriots of the American Revolution does not accept poetry, fiction, essays, or opinion pieces.

Main Rule - Please submit a proposal for an article rather than sending a completed manuscript. It can be sent either email or snail mail, be sure to enclose a SASE if snail mail. Patriots of the American Revolution  tries to respond within a two month time period. You may query other publications at the same time, if another publisher accepts your work, notify us and Patriots of the American Revolution  will withdraw your query from consideration. will respond to your query with the speculation to see your article or decline your proposal. Patriots of the American Revolution  does accept submissions through email, but ONLY at the editor's request and the attachment must be sent in Microsoft Word.

All articles must list sources used at the end of the article and list the two main places or institutions where research was conducted. At this time, Patriots of the American Revolution  pays 3 copies for a feature article. This publication will be a paying publication in the future.

FEATURE ARTICLES - Feature articles (up to 2,500 words, sometimes we will accept a greater length). Patriots of the American Revolution  is looking for articles on the Common Patriots of the war. We want stories about your ancestors told through primary documentation - pension files, diaries, letters, memoirs, civil and military papers, etc. We want some human interest told from those who witnessed and/or experienced the war. Please indicate the total word count at the top of the first page. Pages should be numbered and all notes should be at the end of the article. Ranks should be spelled out in full the first time a patriot is mentioned. i.e.: General George Washington, after first mention, rank can be abbreviated. Minor editing will be done (if necessary), altering the wording of a sentence as to clarify a point being made, but any major changes and/or revisions will be discussed between the author and editor. Also interesting stories that lie within major events of the war are acceptable. Do not include in your article any "reconstructed" dialogue. Use colorful, descriptive language, but no cuteness.

A TRUE PATRIOT HERO - In this section we are looking for brief biographies on the lesser known, but historic figures of the war. Include term of service, birth date and place, death date and place, a bit of genealogy, why they became so notable during this war, etc. Patriot Profile runs 800-1,200 words and pays one copy.

MY PATRIOT ANCESTOR - This is where Patriots of the American Revolution  wants your story of your Rev. War ancestor and your story of how you discovered your Rev. War ancestor. What steps did you take to trace this ancestor? What road blocks did you hit and how did you get through them? What was it like when you found your ancestors grave? MY PATRIOT ANCESTOR runs no more than 1,200 words, and please include a picture of your ancestor's gravestone (if possible). Payment at this time for MY PATRIOT ANCESTOR is one copy.

AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR TODAY - Patriots of the American Revolution  is looking for brief write ups about the American Revolutionary war today. Tell us about your experiences going to and/or participating in a reenactment of the war. Whether you're a veteran or first time visitor to a reenactment, please share with Patriots of the American Revolution your story and photos. In this section Patriots of the American Revolution  is also looking for stories about why you joined either the SAR or the DAR and your memorable experiences in these organizations. Also looking for articles on how you became interested in the American Revolutionary War. Articles run between 500 - 750 words. We would like a minimum of four photos to accompany the article. Patriots of the American Revolution is looking for articles to fill up future issues. If you have or know of a good article on the following, please email the editor at editor@patriotsar.com.

DEADLINES - The deadline for all articles are as follows: March issue - DL is January 1; June issue - DL is March 1; September issue - DL is June 1; December issue - DL is September 1. Being a quarterly magazine we are sometimes ahead of schedule, so please submitt your material as early as possible. We usually go to print one month prior to our mailing.
